Vietnam-Laos trade hits 1.1 billion USD in first seven months

According to Lao media, two-way trade between Vietnam and Laos reached 1.1 billion USD in the first seven months of 2024, up 16.7% over the same period last year.

Vietnamese exports to Laos reached 355.3 million USD, up 14.4%. The main exports were petrol, iron and steel products, chemicals and transport vehicles.

In the other direction, Vietnam imported 763.8 million USD worth of Lao goods, primarily rubber, coal, timber and timber products, fertilisers, ores and other minerals.

According to the Lao Ministry of Industry and Trade, the southeast Asian country’s foreign trade value in July was estimated at 1.2 billion USD, including 533 million USD in exports and 687 million USD in imports.

The largest markets for Lao exports were China, Vietnam, Thailand, the US and Australia, while the largest exporters to Laos were China, Thailand, Vietnam, the US and Japan.
