Vietnam ready to turn off 2G service

The talk show focused on discussions and proposals for stopping services to 2G Only subscribers after October 15, 2024.

Switching off old technologies such as 2G, 3G is a common trend in the world. In this transitional phase, network operators have been implementing solutions to convert the remaining 2G Only subscribers on the network towards the goal of turning off 2G waves on October 15, 2024.

Specifically, the operators have offered subscribers 100 percent of the prices of 4G Only phones combined with conversion packages.

Some mobile businesses present phones to customers who are poor, near-poor households, those in remote, isolated and disadvantaged areas to convert to 4G phones, without having to register for mobile accounts.

In addition to communication on mass media, network operators have promoted direct communication to customers, while increasing communication frequency through various forms. So far, there are only about 700,000 2G Only subscribers left. This is a great effort by the MiIC, localities and network operators to promote the 2G network shutdown process.

The MIC has oriented users to proactively switch to using smartphones; mobile businesses to develop plans and support users for the conversion; and businesses manufacturing and trading mobile terminal devices in the Vietnamese market to change their business orientation... in order to achieve the common goal of turning off old technology waves as planned, while contributing to achieving the goal of popularizing smartphones, accelerating the national digital transformation process.
