
Science and Innovation: Key to industry and trade competitiveness

On January 14, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Deputy Minister Truong Thanh Hoai held a meeting and working session with comrade Zhang Yunming, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China.
At the outset of the meeting, Deputy Minister Truong Thanh Hoai warmly welcomed Deputy Minister Zhang Yunming and the delegation of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China on their visit to Vietnam and working session with the Ministry of Industry and Trade. He emphasized that the Ministry of Industry and Trade attaches great importance to and seeks to promote substantive, mutually beneficial cooperation with China in the industrial sector.

During the meeting, the two sides provided overviews of recent industrial development in their respective countries, as well as development orientations and objectives for the period ahead. Both sides agreed that the two ministries should continue to strengthen close and substantive cooperation in order to effectively implement the important common understandings reached by the senior leaders of the two Parties and the two countries on further deepening and elevating the Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership, building the Vietnam - China Community with a Shared Future of strategic significance, and implementing the Memorandum of Understanding on strengthening cooperation in the industrial sector signed between the two ministries in 2024.
The two Deputy Ministers focused their discussions on proposals to promote deeper cooperation in production and supply chains in the automotive and electronics sectors; enhance cooperation in green transition and carbon emissions reduction; strengthen digital technology cooperation to accelerate the development of manufacturing industries; expand cooperation in light industry, including food processing, pharmaceuticals, and materials for industrial production; and enhance the role of the two ministries in supporting small and medium-sized enterprises.
Deputy Minister Truong Thanh Hoai congratulated China on its achievements in transforming its industrial development model toward high quality, applying artificial intelligence, and advancing green development. He expressed Vietnam’s interest in learning from China’s advanced development experience and promoting technology transfer in sectors where China has strengths and Vietnam has development needs. He also proposed that relevant units of the two ministries maintain regular cooperation to effectively implement the 2024 Memorandum of Understanding on industrial cooperation, thereby continuing to advance substantive, mutually beneficial cooperation initiatives.

On this occasion, the leadership of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Vietnam also expressed its intention to actively study participation in the China - ASEAN Industrial Ministers’ Roundtable mechanism at the invitation of the Chinese side, and to consider organizing a business delegation to attend the China International Small and Medium Enterprises Fair to be held in Guangzhou in 2026.
The meeting was conducted in a sincere and open atmosphere. The leadership of the two ministries reaffirmed their commitment to focusing on promoting concrete areas of cooperation in industry, digital transformation, green transition, and energy efficiency, in line with the needs and development levels of each side.
