Vietnam, Armenia step up trade and investment cooperation

Deputy Minister Phan Thi Thang met Armenia’s ambassador to boost bilateral trade, deepen cooperation, prepare for the 2026 intergovernmental committee meeting.

​Speaking at the meeting, the Deputy Minister emphasized that the visit to Vietnam by the President of the National Assembly of Armenia in 2024 and the visit to Armenia by the Chairman of the National Assembly of Vietnam in 2025 marked important milestones. These exchanges have contributed to strengthening the solid political foundation between the two countries and created fresh momentum to advance cooperation across multiple sectors, including economy, trade, and investment. 

Since the Vietnam - Eurasian Economic Union Free Trade Agreement (VN-EAEU FTA) came into force in October 2016, bilateral economic and trade cooperation has made positive progress, particularly during the 2019 - 2025 period.

For his part, Ambassador Suren Baghdararyan expressed satisfaction with the positive developments in bilateral cooperation and voiced his hope that both sides would continue to deepen and broaden their comprehensive partnership in the coming period. He affirmed that the Armenian Embassy in Vietnam would serve as a bridge to facilitate business cooperation and investment between enterprises of the two countries.

The Ambassador also proposed that both sides coordinate in organizing trade promotion activities and business-to-business (B2B) programs to create more opportunities for commercial exchange, especially in key sectors such as processed agricultural products, textiles, electronics, and information technology.

To further promote cooperation, both sides agreed to coordinate the organization of the second session of the Vietnam - Armenia Intergovernmental Committee on Economic, Trade and Scientific-Technical Cooperation in 2026. The session is expected to focus on measures to boost bilateral trade, effectively implement the Vietnam - Eurasian Economic Union Free Trade Agreement, strengthen investment cooperation, and expand collaboration in potential areas such as science and technology, information technology, logistics, and tourism.

In 2025, total bilateral trade turnover between Vietnam and Armenia reached approximately USD 550 million, marking a 12% increase compared to 2024. Of this figure, Vietnam’s exports accounted for around USD 549 million, while imports from Armenia stood at approximately USD 1 million.

Vietnam’s key exports to Armenia include mobile phones and components; computers and electronic products; machinery, equipment, and spare parts; handbags; and footwear. Meanwhile, Vietnam’s main imports from Armenia consist of precious stones and metals, as well as milk and dairy products.

The Vietnam - Armenia Intergovernmental Committee on Economic, Trade and Scientific-Technical Cooperation was established in 2016 and is co-chaired by leaders of Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade and Armenia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
