From September 6 to 9, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man and a high-level Vietnamese delegation paid an official visit to the Republic of Korea at the invitation of National Assembly Speaker Cho Jeong Sik.

This was National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man’s first visit to the Republic of Korea in his capacity as head of Viet Nam’s legislative body, as well as the first visit by a Vietnamese National Assembly Chairman to the country in five years. Notably, Chairman Tran Thanh Man was the first foreign guest received by newly elected National Assembly Speaker Cho Jeong Sik.

During the visit, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Phan Thi Thang accompanied the National Assembly Chairman at a number of important activities, including a visit and working session at the Embassy of Viet Nam in the Republic of Korea; a meeting with the Vietnamese community in the country; a reception for the Viet Nam Innovation Network and young Vietnamese intellectuals in the Republic of Korea; and meetings with major Korean corporations, including Samsung, SK, Lotte and LG.

At the high-level talks, the two sides affirmed their commitment to effectively implementing the outcomes achieved during General Secretary To Lam’s visit to the Republic of Korea in August 2025 and Korean President Lee Jae Myung’s visit to Viet Nam in April 2026.

The two sides agreed to further promote economic, trade and investment cooperation, with a view to raising bilateral trade turnover to USD 150 billion by 2030 in a more balanced direction.

Continuing his official visit to the Republic of Korea, on the afternoon of September 8 in Seoul, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man received several senior executives from leading Korean corporations, including Roh Tae-moon, President and CEO of Samsung Electronics; Chey Tae-won, Chairman of SK Group; Moon Hyuk-soo, CEO of LG Innotek; and Shin Dong-bin, Chairman of Lotte Group.

Deputy Minister Phan Thi Thang accompanied the National Assembly Chairman at the meetings, helping promote direct exchanges with the Korean business community, particularly in areas under the management of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, including trade, industry, energy and supply chain development.

Through these meetings, Viet Nam continued to reaffirm its policy of selectively attracting foreign investment, prioritising high-tech projects with strong knowledge content and high added value, environmentally friendly operations, and the capacity to connect with and enable Vietnamese businesses to participate more deeply in global value chains.

At the same time, Viet Nam affirmed its readiness to listen to and consider legitimate proposals and recommendations from Korean businesses, while continuing to improve institutions and policies towards greater stability, transparency, convenience and predictability, creating a favourable investment and business environment for Korean enterprises to expand their long-term operations in Viet Nam.

In addition, Deputy Minister Phan Thi Thang accompanied Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dung in bilateral activities aimed at promoting cooperation in science and technology and innovation, particularly in artificial intelligence, with research institutions and businesses from both countries, including the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, SK Group of the Republic of Korea and FPT of Viet Nam.

The participation and accompaniment of Deputy Minister Phan Thi Thang alongside senior Vietnamese leaders in the above-mentioned activities further demonstrate the Ministry of Industry and Trade’s proactive and active role in implementing high-level external relations tasks. The efforts have contributed to translating political commitments into practical areas of cooperation and to the overall success of the National Assembly Chairman’s official visit to the Republic of Korea.
