HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam attaches importance to and prioritises strengthening relations with Cambodia for the benefit of the two peoples, stated National Assembly (NA) Permanent Vice Chairman Trần Thanh Mẫn while receiving Secretary General of the Senate of Cambodia Oum Sarith in Hà Nội on April 4.

The Vietnamese NA highly appreciated Cambodia’s chairmanship of the ASEAN and ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) last year, which made positive contributions to the process of building a peaceful, stable, and prosperous ASEAN Community, Mẫn said. He wished that the country would successfully host the 32nd Southeast Asian Games in May.

The official went on to express his delight at the growing cooperation and ties between the nations, their regular exchange of delegations and people-to-people exchanges, and good outcomes of their bilateral collaboration mechanisms.

He vowed that the Vietnamese NA would make every effort together with the Cambodian Senate to continue to strengthen cooperation, information exchange, and sharing of professional experiences, especially in the field of law making, supervision and decision-making on important matters. Mẫn hoped the two legislative bodies would continue to unite and support each other at international forums.

The Vietnamese NA was about to host the ninth Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Global Conference of Young Parliamentarians, he said, proposing the Cambodian Senate send a delegation to attend the event.

For his part, Oum Sarith lauded the friendship and cooperation shared between the countries and their law-making bodies, and thanked the support of the Vietnamese Party, State and people for Cambodia.

Highlighting that the Cambodian people never forget and are grateful to Vietnamese voluntary soldiers who helped Cambodia overthrow the Pol Pot genocidal regime, the Secretary General said he hoped the two parliaments, governments and peoples would continue to strengthen their solidarity and mutual assistance in the time to come.
