According to data recently released by the Statistics Office under the Ministry of Finance, total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenues in August were estimated to increase 1.6% from the previous month and 14.9% year on year.

In the first eight months of 2026, total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenues increased 13.3% year on year. The growth reflects continued expansion in consumer demand and service activities, contributing to growth in the services sector.

In August, total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenues at current prices were estimated at VND 679.8 trillion, up 1.6% from the previous month and 14.9% from the same period last year. Retail sales revenue increased across most groups of goods compared with both the previous month and the same period last year.

Revenue from accommodation and food services rose 2.6% month on month and 21.5% year on year. Travel services decreased 6.9% from the previous month but increased 19.2% year on year. Revenue from other goods and services increased 1.5% month on month and 14.8% year on year.

In the first eight months of 2026, total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenues at current prices were estimated at VND 5,235.5 trillion, up 13.3% year on year. Excluding price factors, the growth rate was 7.6%, compared with 7.5% in the same period of 2025.

Retail sales of goods were estimated at VND 3,947.6 trillion during the period, accounting for 75.4% of the total and increasing 12.8% year on year. Among major categories, sales of gems, precious metals and related products increased 28.1%; other goods rose 19.2%; wood and construction materials increased 16.5%; petroleum products rose 15.2%; and other fuels, excluding gasoline and oil, increased 16.4%.

Retail sales in several major localities also recorded strong growth in the first eight months compared with the same period last year. Da Nang posted a 14.2% increase, followed by Quang Ninh at 13.9%, Can Tho and Hai Phong at 13.1% each, Hanoi at 12.8%, and Ho Chi Minh City at 12.2%.

Revenue from accommodation and food services reached an estimated VND670.3 trillion in the first eight months, accounting for 12.8% of the total and increasing 16.4% year on year.

Travel service revenue was estimated at VND 68.7 trillion, accounting for 1.3% of the total and rising 17.1% year on year.

Revenue from other services reached an estimated VND 548.9 trillion, accounting for 10.5% of the total and increasing 13.2% year on year.
