Quang Ninh focuses on supporting industries for mechanics and automobiles

Leveraging infrastructure, strategic location, Quang Ninh targets becoming a leading hub for supporting industries in machinery, automotive, and railway sectors.

New growth potential for supporting industries

Developing supporting industries in mechanics, automobile manufacturing, and rail industry has become an urgent task for Quang Ninh, a locality endowed with abundant resources, skilled labor, and modern infrastructure.

Thanks to its strategic location, well-connected transportation system, and synchronized industrial zones, Quang Ninh possesses strong advantages to attract investment in mechanical and manufacturing industries, particularly those related to the automotive and railway sectors.

At the heart of this development is the Thanh Cong Viet Hung Automobile Plant part of the Thanh Cong Viet Hung Automotive and Supporting Industry Complex in Ha Long. With a designed capacity of over 120,000 vehicles per year, it is the first automobile plant in Vietnam and Southeast Asia to assemble and produce Skoda-branded vehicles, one of the largest automotive brands from the Czech Republic.

Equipped with advanced European technology and high automation standards, the plant began commercial operations in March 2025 and delivered its first 1,000 cars by August 2025. In the coming years, the complex will continue to attract investment in automotive supporting industries, positioning Quang Ninh as a major automobile production hub in Vietnam.

These achievements reflect the province’s strategic focus on manufacturing and processing industries, forming a solid foundation for supporting industries that can generate high added value and sustainable growth, especially in automotive mechanics and railway technology.

Toward a regional hub for supporting industries

Experts agree that Quang Ninh’s comprehensive infrastructure, labor quality, and favorable policies allow it to play an increasingly important role in national and regional automotive and railway supply chains.

The momentum is further supported by Resolution No. 172/2024/QH15, adopted by the National Assembly on November 30, 2024, approving investment in the North-South high-speed railway project, opening new opportunities for railway mechanics, logistics, and industrial manufacturing.

Quang Ninh’s railway network is being developed with three national lines, including the existing Yen Vien - Pha Lai - Ha Long - Cai Lan line, and two planned routes (Nam Dinh - Hai Phong - Quang Ninh and Ha Long - Mong Cai) along with three urban rail lines connecting Dong Trieu, Uong Bi, Quang Yen, Ha Long, Van Don, Hai Ha, and Mong Cai.

These projects not only ease traffic pressure on roads but also open vast opportunities for railway component manufacturing, including locomotive parts, carriage equipment, power systems, sensors, and control devices, produced directly in the province. This will enhance localization rates, production capacity, and competitiveness, integrating Quang Ninh more deeply into the global supply chain.

“Supporting industries in Quang Ninh still face challenges such as dependence on imported technology, low R&D investment, and weak linkages between domestic and FDI firms,” said Nguyen Thi Hien, Director of Quang Ninh Department of Industry and Trade. “The province must develop a long-term, comprehensive strategy for mechanical and railway supporting industries to build new growth drivers for 2025-2030.”

She added that Quang Ninh is implementing the Politburo’s Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW, identifying science, technology, and innovation as key drivers for economic development.

Quang Ninh commits to accompanying investors by ensuring a stable policy environment, modern infrastructure, and high-quality human resources. The province will continue to: Invest in industrial infrastructure and develop industrial clusters for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs); Prioritize processing, manufacturing, and supporting industries in investment attraction; Support enterprises through credit access, R&D incentives, and technology innovation programs; Offer preferential tax and land policies to promote sustainable and effective industrial development.

“Quang Ninh aims to become a leading center for supporting industries, contributing practically to Vietnam’s industrialization and modernization goals,” Hien affirmed.
