PV GAS, Vietnam Coast Guard sign agreement for further cooperation

PV GAS and the Vietnam Coast Guard Command sign the cooperation agreement for the coming period

The conference was attended by Major General Dam Xuan Tuan, Deputy Chief of the Vietnam Coast Guard Command, representatives of the leadership of the Staff, departments and divisions of the Vietnam Coast Guard, and representatives of the Coast Guard Region 3 Command in Vung Tau City and the Coast Guard Region 4 Command in Kien Giang Province.

On behalf of PV GAS, Hoang Trong Dung, Deputy General Director of PV GAS, attended the event, along with representatives of the leadership from relevant departments and units of PV GAS.

Currently, PV GAS manages and operates five gas transportation and distribution systems, including Cuu Long, Nam Con Son, PM3 - Ca Mau, Ham Rong - Thai Binh, and Nam Con Son 2 gas systems, with pipelines totaling over 1,400km, nearly 1,200km of which are undersea. The undersea pipelines are predominantly laid on the seabed, which is also home to numerous offshore oil and gas facilities. These areas are located along international shipping routes and are fishing grounds for the region. These areas are exposed to potential risks from maritime services, transportation activities, fishing operations, and exploration and extraction activities. Such activities may lead to collisions or impacts on the pipeline systems due to anchoring, trawling, or the use of explosives in fishing, as well as acts of sabotage. These risks can directly affect the pipelines, potentially causing gas leaks that could lead to undersea fires or explosions.

Over the past more than 34 years of development, PV GAS has given top priority to ensuring the security and safety of gas pipeline systems. The corporation has maintained a flawless safety record, with no incidents or explosions affecting people, the environment, or assets, especially no impacts on national energy and food security. In 2014, PV GAS signed a cooperation agreement with the Vietnam Coast Guard Command for joint patrols to protect the security and safety of undersea gas pipeline systems. This agreement has served as the foundation for collaboration between the two sides throughout the implementation of security and safety measures for Bach Ho and PM3 – Ca Mau undersea gas pipelines.

In recent years, the two sides have collaborated to conduct over 200 patrols along Bach Ho and PM3 – Ca Mau gas pipelines. Those patrols focused on ensuring the security and safety of maritime territories and reviewing safety measures for the gas pipeline systems. Participants in those patrols included relevant officials from both sides. They diligently performed their duties and prepared detailed periodic reports. During the patrols, they met local people and fishermen working on vessels operating in the area, provided them with information and encouraged their voluntary participation in protecting the nation’s airspace and maritime territories.

Through these patrols, nearly 700 vessels operating within the safety corridor of gas pipeline systems have been identified and educated, with over 200 violation reports issued. The cooperation with the Vietnam Coast Guard Command has helped PV GAS significantly enhance the safety of its undersea pipeline systems, contributing to the continuous, reliable, and efficient operation of the entire gas transportation, processing, and distribution system. The patrols along undersea pipelines have yielded positive results. The number of violations has decreased, and public awareness of the importance of undersea gas pipeline systems has steadily improved.

At the conference, PV GAS and the Vietnam Coast Guard Command signed a new cooperation agreement for the next phase. This significant event laid the foundation for further patrols to protect the security and safety of Bach Ho and PM3 – Ca Mau undersea gas pipeline systems in the coming period. The agreement helps ensure the safety of PV GAS’ undersea pipelines, enabling the uninterrupted, reliable, and efficient operation of the entire gas transportation, processing, and distribution system, contributing to ensuring national energy and food security.
