Prime Minister begins activities at the 47th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur

On October 26 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysian Prime Minister and ASEAN 2025 Chair welcomes PM Pham Minh Chinh and other heads of delegations to the 47th ASEAN Summit.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim extended greetings to leaders from ASEAN member states and ASEAN partner countries and organizations, including the Sultan of Brunei; Presidents of Indonesia, the Philippines, Timor-Leste, Brazil, and South Africa; Prime Ministers of Thailand, Singapore, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, and Canada; the President of the European Council; and the UN Secretary-General.

Prime Minister Chinh led the Vietnam delegation to participate in the summit. Immediately following the welcoming ceremony, the Prime Minister and other leaders attended the opening session of the 47th ASEAN Summit, the ASEAN Awards ceremony, the signing of the declaration on Timor-Leste’s accession to ASEAN, and the high-level dialogue of the ASEAN Business and Investment Summit.

Taking place from October 26 to 28, ASEAN 47 includes nearly 20 high-level sessions and activities. Leaders are expected to sign, adopt, and acknowledge nearly 80 documents aimed at enhancing cooperation within ASEAN and between ASEAN and its partners across priority sectors, particularly in economics and trade. Notably, ASEAN is set to officially welcome Timor-Leste as its 11th member.

The Vietnam delegation continues to affirm its proactive participation and responsible contribution to the collective success of the summits, while maintaining unity, consensus, and connectivity within ASEAN, for the cause of peace, stability, cooperation, and development both in the region and globally.

Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien, head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade delegation, is accompanying Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh to the 47th ASEAN Summit and related high-level meetings. On the sidelines, Minister Dien will hold a series of bilateral meetings and engagements with multiple partners.
