President of the Republic of Korea Lee Jae Myung and his spouse arrived in Hanoi, beginning a State visit to Vietnam from April 21 to 24 at the invitation of senior Vietnamese leaders, opening up opportunities to further strengthen bilateral cooperation.

At the invitation of General Secretary To Lam and his spouse, on the afternoon of April 21, 2026, President of the Republic of Korea Lee Jae Myung and his spouse arrived in Hanoi, commencing their State visit to Vietnam from April 21 to 24, 2026.

Welcoming the delegation at Noi Bai International Airport were: Le Khanh Hai, Chairman of the Presidential Office; Nguyen Minh Vu, Permanent Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs; Vu Dai Thang, Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee; and Vu Ho, Ambassador of Vietnam to the Republic of Korea.

Accompanying the President were: Kim Hae Kyung, spouse of President Lee Jae Myung; Bae Kyung Hoon, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Science, ICT and Future Planning; Cho Hyun, Minister of Foreign Affairs; Kim Jung Kwan, Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy; Kim Yun Duk, Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport; Wi Sung Lac, National Security Advisor; Kim Yong Beom, Chief of Staff for Policy; Choi Young Sam, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Vietnam; Lee Kyu Youn, Senior Secretary to the President for Press and Communications; Ha Jung Woo, Senior Secretary to the President for AI Future Strategy; Choi Hee Deok, Presidential Secretary for Foreign Affairs; and Kang Kum Sil, Ambassador for Climate Change and Environment.

President Lee Jae Myung was born on December 22, 1964. He holds a bachelor’s degree in law from Chung-Ang University in the Republic of Korea.

He passed the bar examination in 1986 and completed training at the Judicial Research and Training Institute (18th class) in 1989. In the same year, he established a law office and began practicing as a lawyer.

In 1989, he served as a member of the International Solidarity Committee for a Democratic Society. From 1990 to 1994, he was Director of the Incheon Labor Counseling Center and Director of the Gwangju Labor Counseling Center.

From 1994 to 2005, he held positions as Executive Director of the Seongnam Citizens’ Coalition and Director of the Seongnam Anti-Corruption Reporting Center.

From 2010 to 2018, he served as Mayor of Seongnam (5th and 6th terms through direct elections).

From 2018 to 2021, he was Governor of Gyeonggi Province (7th term through direct election). From 2022 to 2025, he served as a member of the 21st and 22nd National Assembly (Gyeyang-eul constituency, Incheon).

He served as Chairman of the Democratic Party from 2022 to 2025. Since 2025, Lee Jae Myung has been President of the Republic of Korea.
