Warmly welcoming National Assembly President Sophon Zaram and the high-ranking delegation of the Thai National Assembly, Party General Secretary and State President To Lam emphasised that the visit was of special significance as it took place on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. He described it as a milestone reflecting the strong development of Viet Nam-Thailand relations and providing fresh impetus for bilateral cooperation in the coming period.

The Party General Secretary and State President expressed his pleasure at the positive development of bilateral relations across all fields and highly valued the outcomes of National Assembly President Sophon Zaram’s talks with National Assembly President Tran Thanh Man and his meeting with Prime Minister Le Minh Hung.

He underscored the important role of the Thai National Assembly in promoting bilateral cooperation between Viet Nam and Thailand, affirming that parliamentary cooperation constitutes an important pillar contributing to strengthening political trust and facilitating the effective implementation of agreements reached by senior leaders of the two countries.

The Party General Secretary and State President proposed that the two sides continue to consolidate political trust through regular exchanges of delegations and contacts at high and other levels; effectively implement the Action Programme for the Viet Nam-Thailand Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for the 2026-2031 period; and expressed his hope that Viet Nam would soon welcome the King and Queen of Thailand on a visit in the coming period.

Thai National Assembly President Sophon Zaram expressed his pleasure at making his first official visit to Viet Nam and sincerely thanked Party General Secretary and State President To Lam for the warm and respectful reception extended to the delegation. He conveyed the greetings and best wishes of King Maha Vajiralongkorn, Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and other Thai leaders to Party General Secretary and State President To Lam and senior Vietnamese leaders.

National Assembly President Sophon Zaram expressed his admiration for and congratulated Viet Nam on the major development achievements it had recorded in recent years. He highly appreciated Viet Nam’s increasingly important role and position in the region and the world and stressed Thailand’s wish to learn from Viet Nam’s experience in streamlining its organisational apparatus.

Sophon Zaram affirmed that Thailand consistently attaches importance to its Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with Viet Nam. He noted that the two countries share a solid foundation of friendship, many converging strategic interests and substantial potential for cooperation. He said the upgrading of bilateral ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership had opened a new stage of development in relations between the two countries and stressed Thailand’s desire to advance comprehensive cooperation with Viet Nam, particularly in economy, trade, education and tourism.

Highly appreciating cooperation between the two National Assemblies in recent years, the Thai National Assembly President affirmed that Thailand’s legislature would continue to coordinate closely with the National Assembly of Viet Nam to strengthen cooperation at both bilateral and multilateral levels and intensify the exchange of experience in legislation, supervision and decision-making on major national issues.

The two leaders agreed to further strengthen defence and security cooperation, coordinate closely in combating transnational crime, promptly concretise the “Three Connects” Strategy, and effectively implement specific cooperation programmes and projects to enhance connectivity between the two economies. They also agreed to promote balanced and sustainable bilateral trade towards the target of USD 25 billion and, in the longer term, USD 50 billion, in line with the common understanding reached by the two countries’ leaders.

The Thai National Assembly President thanked Viet Nam for its attention to and support for Thai businesses investing and operating in Viet Nam. The two leaders agreed to continue creating favourable conditions and encouraging businesses from each country to expand investment in the other.

Sharing Sophon Zaram’s assessment of the important bridging role played by the Vietnamese community in Thailand, Party General Secretary and State President To Lam expressed his hope that the Thai National Assembly and relevant Thai authorities would continue to pay attention to and create favourable conditions for the Vietnamese community to stabilise their lives and make positive contributions to strengthening friendship between the peoples of the two countries.

The Party General Secretary and State President also proposed that the two sides continue to promote relations between the Communist Party of Viet Nam and the Bhumjaithai Party, thereby broadening the foundation for stable cooperation between the two countries.

The two leaders agreed to continue coordinating closely at regional and international cooperation mechanisms, particularly ASEAN, Mekong subregional cooperation mechanisms and the United Nations, in the interests of the two peoples and to make positive contributions to maintaining peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region.
