Ambassador Jamieson Greer said negotiations on a reciprocal, fair and balanced Vietnam - US trade agreement have made significant progress and are entering a decisive stage.
On February 19, on the occasion of attending the opening session of the Gaza Peace Council in Washington D.C. at the invitation of President Donald Trump, General Secretary To Lam received US Trade Representative, Ambassador Jamieson Greer.

At the meeting, the General Secretary congratulated the US on successfully hosting the opening session of the Gaza Peace Council, stressing that peace, security and development are of utmost importance to all nations and the world.
He also congratulated the US on its development achievements during the second term of President Donald Trump, and expressed his hope that President Trump and US businesses will attend the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week in Vietnam in 2027.
General Secretary To Lam highly valued the achievements in bilateral cooperation across politics, economy - trade, security - defense and people-to-people exchanges, expressing his wish that both sides will further promote relations for the practical benefit of the two countries and their peoples, contributing to peace, stability, development and prosperity in the region and the world.
He welcomed the positive outcomes in negotiations on the reciprocal trade agreement, appreciating the role of the Office of the US Trade Representative and the attention and support of Ambassador Jamieson Greer. He added that Vietnamese agencies will continue to coordinate closely with the US side to soon finalize the agreement.
For his part, US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer expressed appreciation to the Party chief for the reception and congratulated him on his re-election at the recent National Party Congress, while conveying congratulations from President Trump. He also thanked the Party chief for attending the opening session of the Gaza Peace Council, underscoring the importance of bilateral relations.
The US Trade Representative spoke highly of the positive developments in bilateral ties, particularly in economy and trade, emphasizing that Vietnam is one of the US’s important trading partners. Strengthening economic and trade cooperation will contribute positively to the overall development of bilateral relations, he noted.
He said negotiations on the Vietnam - US Agreement on Reciprocal, Fair, and Balanced Trade have made significant progress and are entering a decisive stage, stressing the agreement’s importance to bilateral economic and trade cooperation and commending the proactive and constructive engagement of the Vietnamese negotiating delegation.
The ambassador affirmed that the Office of the US Trade Representative and he personally will continue to work closely with relevant Vietnamese ministries and agencies, making every effort to conclude negotiations in line with the directions of the Party chief and President Donald Trump.
On this occasion, US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer extended New Year greetings to the Party chief and the people of Vietnam.
