New momentum for Vietnam-China relations

At the invitation of General Secretary of the Communist Party of China and President Xi Jinping and his spouse, Vietnamese General Secretary and President To Lam, along with his spouse, will make a state visit to China from August 18 to 20. The visit is expected to be a significant milestone, ushering in a new phase of development in the friendly neighborliness and comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between Vietnam and China, as well as in the Vietnam-China community with a shared future that carries strategic significance.

Over the past 30 years of normalizing bilateral ties, and especially since the establishment of the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership framework in 2008, the Vietnam-China ties have progressed across fields.

Both sides assess that the current relationship is more profound, comprehensive and substantive than ever before with thriving cooperation in different sectors, and across all social strata.

In the first half of this year, two-way trade reached 94.5 billion USD. China also led in foreign direct investment with 447 new projects, amounting to nearly 1.3 billion USD.

Tourism has seen a strong recovery, and friendly people-to-people exchanges have been boosted. The land border remains generally stable, and both sides have continued regular negotiations and exchanges regarding maritime issues.

With guiding principles established in the Vietnam-China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, Vietnam is expected to strengthen its international environment and position, thereby fostering socio-economic development in line with the objectives of the 13th National Party Congress.

Accompanying General Party Secretary and President To Lam on his state visit to China is a delegation from the Ministry of Industry and Trade led by Minister Nguyen Hong Dien. In addition to the General Party Secretary and President’s activities in China, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien is expected to hold bilateral meetings and exchanges on the sidelines and oversee the signing and exchange of several cooperation documents during the visit.

Joining Minister Nguyen Hong Dien in China are leaders from various departments and offices of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, including the Department of Personnel and Organization, the Asia-Africa Market Department, the Industrial Agency, the Office of the Inter-Agency Steering Committee for International Economic Cooperation, the Ministry’s Office, and the Newspaper of Industry and Trade (Công Thương).
