According to a press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the visits are being made at the invitations of Chairman of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea Cho Jeong Sik and his spouse, and Chairman of the State Great Hural of Mongolia Sandag Byambatsogt and his spouse.

National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man and his spouse, together with a high-level Vietnamese delegation, will pay official visits to the Republic of Korea and Mongolia from September 6 to 11, 2026.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Viet Nam and the Republic of Korea established diplomatic relations on December 22, 1992. Parliamentary cooperation between the two countries has grown strongly and substantively in recent years, producing a number of new achievements and making an important contribution to deepening bilateral relations.

During the official visit to Viet Nam by Chairman of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea Woo Won Sik, the two legislatures signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between the National Assembly of Viet Nam and the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea in November 2025.

The two sides regularly hold talks and meetings and exchange delegations of National Assembly leaders, committees, friendship parliamentary groups, women parliamentarians and young parliamentarians. They also maintain regular exchanges and share experience, while coordinating efforts to monitor and promote the effective implementation of signed agreements.

The two legislatures maintain close cooperation and support each other at multilateral parliamentary forums, including the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), making a positive contribution to maintaining peace, security and stability in the region and the world.

Economic, trade and investment cooperation

Regarding economic, trade and investment cooperation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the two countries established the Joint Committee for Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation between the two Governments in 1993, with annual meetings held regularly since then.

The Republic of Korea is currently Viet Nam’s second-largest investment partner, second-largest source of tourists, second-largest provider of official development assistance (ODA), third-largest trading partner and third-largest market for Vietnamese workers.

In trade, bilateral Viet Nam - Republic of Korea trade reached USD 89.5 billion in 2025, up 9.6% from 2024. Viet Nam’s exports to the Republic of Korea reached USD 28.9 billion, up 12.7%, while imports from the Republic of Korea stood at USD 60.5 billion, up 8.1%. Viet Nam recorded a trade deficit of USD 31.6 billion with the Republic of Korea, up 4.3%.

In the first seven months of 2026, two-way trade between Viet Nam and the Republic of Korea reached USD 70 billion, up 41% year-on-year. Viet Nam’s exports to the Republic of Korea totaled USD 19 billion, up 16%, while imports from the Republic of Korea reached USD 51 billion, up 52%. Viet Nam’s trade deficit with the Republic of Korea stood at USD 32 billion.

Viet Nam’s exports mainly comprise products manufactured by foreign-invested enterprises, including phones and components, computers, electronic products and components.

In the opposite direction, the Republic of Korea supplies components and spare parts, machinery and equipment, as well as production materials. The two sides are currently discussing specific measures to implement the “Action Plan to achieve the target of USD 150 billion in bilateral trade in a more balanced manner by 2030.”

In terms of investment, as of the end of July 2026, the Republic of Korea was Viet Nam’s largest foreign investor among 154 countries and territories, with total registered capital of USD 102.6 billion across 10,567 projects. Korean investment accounts for more than 23% of the total number of projects and 18.2% of total registered foreign direct investment in Viet Nam.

Korean investment is concentrated in key sectors of Viet Nam’s economy, including processing and manufacturing, high technology, electronics, automobiles and auto parts, construction and real estate. Major destinations for Korean investment include Bac Ninh, Ho Chi Minh City, Hai Phong, and Thai Nguyen.

Science and technology cooperation has been identified as a pillar and a new highlight in bilateral relations.

The Vietnamese Ministry of Science and Technology, in coordination with the Korean Ministry of Science and ICT, held the 10th session of the Viet Nam - Republic of Korea Joint Committee on Science and Technology Cooperation in April 2026. The two sides agreed to promote emerging fields, including artificial intelligence, biotechnology, quantum technology and semiconductors, while strengthening high-quality human resource training and connecting the innovation ecosystems of the two countries.

The two sides have established the Viet Nam-Korea Institute of Science and Technology (VKIST), with the Republic of Korea providing USD 30 million in non-refundable aid. Efforts are currently underway to implement the second phase of the project.

Viet Nam - Mongolia relations

Regarding cooperation with Mongolia, Viet Nam and Mongolia established diplomatic relations in November 1954.

Viet Nam and Mongolia have enjoyed traditional friendship from an early stage, with the two sides regularly supporting and assisting each other. Mongolia considers Viet Nam one of its most important comprehensive partners in Southeast Asia.

In recent years, bilateral relations have developed substantively and comprehensively across a wide range of areas. The two sides established the “Viet Nam - Mongolia Comprehensive Partnership” during General Secretary and State President To Lam’s State visit to Mongolia in September 2024.

The two countries maintain regular exchanges of delegations and high-level contacts, as well as exchanges among officials at various levels, localities and people-to-people friendship organizations.

Cooperation between the two National Assemblies has continued, with delegation exchanges and contacts through parliamentary channels being promoted. The two sides signed a cooperation agreement between their National Assemblies in 2018 and agreed to strengthen cooperation between the two legislative bodies, particularly closer collaboration among specialized committees, parliamentary groups, young parliamentarians’ groups, women parliamentarians’ groups and relevant affiliated agencies in line with the new framework of bilateral relations.

The two sides will also continue cooperation and mutual support at regional and international inter-parliamentary forums, including the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF), and the Asia-Europe Parliamentary Partnership (ASEP).
