On the morning of April 6, at the first session of the 16th National Assembly, lawmakers voted to adopt a resolution electing the Chairman of the National Assembly. Accordingly, Tran Thanh Man, Chairman of the 15th National Assembly, was re-elected as Chairman of the 16th National Assembly with 100% of participating deputies voting in favor.

In his remarks upon taking office, Chairman Tran Thanh Man expressed his sincere gratitude to voters in Ho Chi Minh City for trusting and electing him as a deputy to the 16th National Assembly, as well as to National Assembly deputies for their confidence in electing him as Chairman of the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam for the 16th tenure. “This is a great honor, and at the same time a profound responsibility before the Party, the State, the voters and the people of the entire country,” he said.

In this solemn moment, Chairman Tran Thanh Man expressed his deep respect and boundless gratitude to President Ho Chi Minh; paid tribute to previous leaders, revolutionary veterans, Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, Heroes of the People’s Armed Forces, Heroes of Labor; families of martyrs; wounded and sick soldiers; and families who have rendered service to the nation.

He also extended his sincere appreciation for the sound and close leadership and direction of the Party Central Committee, the Politburo, the Secretariat, and General Secretary To Lam; expressed heartfelt thanks to National Assembly deputies, voters, the people across the country and overseas Vietnamese; as well as organizations, individuals, and international friends for their support and solidarity, helping Vietnam move confidently and steadily into a new era, an era of national rise.

According to the Chairman, the country is standing at a historic turning point of profound significance; while proud of the achievements the National Assembly has attained over the past 80 years, its responsibilities remain extremely heavy yet highly honorable.

The 16th National Assembly will continue to inherit and promote the achievements of previous tenures, with intellect, strong political resolve, a spirit of innovation, and a commitment to serving the people.

“The National Assembly will continue striving to be worthy of being the National Assembly of the people, by the people, and for the people; truly the highest representative body of the people and the highest state authority; a vivid embodiment of the socialist rule-of-law state, all for the goal of a prosperous people, a strong nation, and a democratic, equitable, and civilized society,” he affirmed.

Implementing the duties and powers enshrined in the Constitution of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and those entrusted by the Party, the State, and the people, the Chairman pledged to devote his utmost efforts to serving the Fatherland and the people; working together with the National Assembly, its Standing Committee, its agencies, and deputies to further reform operations, promote the application of science and technology, innovation, digital transformation, and artificial intelligence, thereby improving efficiency and effectiveness, ensuring that actions match words, and that tasks are carried out promptly, correctly, effectively, and to completion.

At the same time, he pledged to strongly renew legislative thinking, with “caution in method but decisiveness in action,” focusing on improving and synchronizing institutions to enable rapid and sustainable national development, meeting the demands of international integration.

He emphasized the need to enhance the quality of oversight, particularly supervision of law enforcement, considering oversight a tool for creation and development promotion; monitoring and urging the implementation of post-oversight recommendations. He also called for improving the quality of decisions on major national issues, and further deepening parliamentary diplomacy, contributing to enhancing Vietnam’s international standing.
