At the meeting, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien conveyed the messages of General Secretary To Lam and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh to Senator Roger Marshall, affirming Viet Nam’s strong commitment to building a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with the United States. He expressed the country’s desire to deepen bilateral economic and trade cooperation for the mutual benefit of both peoples and business communities.

Addressing the ongoing negotiations for a Reciprocal Trade Agreement between Viet Nam and the United States, the Minister emphasized Viet Nam’s readiness to further open its market and offer additional incentives for U.S. exports. He called on the United States to take commensurate steps.

"Viet Nam remains consistent in its approach to the negotiations, aiming for a bilateral agreement grounded in mutual respect for sovereignty, political institutions, and independent development paths—while ensuring a balance of interests and alignment with international commitments and respective development levels", said the Minister.

The Minister expressed hope that Senator Roger Marshall, given his political influence within the Republican Party and deep understanding of trade, agriculture, and innovation, would lend his voice in support of Viet Nam during the negotiation process. He also encouraged the Senator to serve as a bridge to foster broader cooperation between Viet Nam and the United States—particularly between Viet Nam and the state of Kansas, in areas where Kansas holds key advantages such as agriculture, aviation, and biotechnology.

Senator Roger Marshall acknowledged Viet Nam’s serious, proactive, and constructive engagement in negotiations with the United States. He stated that he would soon raise the matter with the US President and relevant Cabinet members, expressing hope for positive outcomes from both sides. The Senator also welcomed Minister Nguyen Hong Dien’s working visit, noting that it would pave the way for expanded cooperation across various sectors between the two countries.
