The 47th ASEAN Summit and related meetings took place in Kuala Lumpur from October 26 to 28, bringing together more than 30 heads of state and government from ASEAN member countries and key partners including China, Japan, the Republic of Korea, New Zealand, Australia, the United States and Canada.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh led the Vietnamese delegation. During the meetings, regional leaders discussed peace, economic recovery and inclusive growth under the theme “Inclusive and Sustainable.”
On October 27, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien, head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade’s delegation, accompanied the Prime Minister to a series of high-level events, including meetings with the European Council President Antonio Costa; the 26th ASEAN - Republic of Korea Summit; meetings with New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon, Chinese Premier Li Qiang; Managing Director, International Monetary Fund (IMF) Kristalina Georgieva; Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese; as well as the 28th ASEAN+3 Summit.

European Council President Antonio Costa affirms that the EU highly values Vietnam’s role and position, particularly its remarkable economic achievements.

On the same day, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien, together with leaders of relevant ministries and agencies, accompanies Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh to a meeting with New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon.

Both sides agree on the need for stronger initiatives to lift the bilateral trade to USD 3 billion by 2026.

Alongside accompanying the Prime Minister at the ASEAN Summits, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien also held bilateral meetings with international partners.

On the occasion of accompanying the Prime Minister to the 47th ASEAN Summit and related meetings in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on October 27, 2025, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien has a bilateral meeting with Chinese Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao.

The two ministers discuss recent economic and trade cooperation between Vietnam and China, agreeing on the need to further strengthen and promote collaboration, especially amid the current complex regional and global economic landscape.

On the afternoon of October 27, 2025, on the sidelines of the 47th ASEAN Summit and related meetings, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien receives a delegation from the Business Council of Canada led by its President and CEO, Goldy Hyder.

During the meeting, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien emphasizes that the current period presents favorable opportunities to advance trade and investment cooperation between Vietnam and Canada. He notes that businesses from both countries still have significant potential to tap into areas such as supply chain connectivity, investment, technology, and branding to create higher-value partnerships.

On the afternoon of October 27, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien holds a bilateral meeting with Canada’s Minister of International Trade.

During the meeting, the two ministers discuss and agree on various measures to enhance economic and trade cooperation between the two countries.
