The Hanoi People's Committee has recently issued a decision recognizing and certifying 14 craft villages in the city, including 11 traditional craft villages, which all have received a related support worth VND6-12 million each and been made eligible for the city’s annual production and sales development programs.
According to Tran Thi Phuong Lan, Head of the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade, in recent years, the city has implemented many support programs for the development of craft villages. Specifically, during the 10-year period of implementing the Government’s Decree 45/2012/ND-CP on industry promotion, Hanoi offered 625 vocational training courses to improve skills for nearly 22,000 rural people, and 16 other courses of training in skill and occupation transfer for 800 workers in northern mountainous provinces, aiming to connect raw material areas and expand the market for handicraft products. Traditional crafts of Hanoi were introduced to provinces in the northern mountainous region, such as Son La, Lai Chau, Dien Bien, and Bac Kan, among others. The city also disseminated and introduced state regulations, policies and strategies regarding the development of crafts and craft villages to 6,000 officials, and organized 18 trade fairs and four exhibitions of handicraft products.
The capital has combined various programs such as craft promotion, trade promotion, support for craft village development, the Buy Vietnamese Goods campaign in Hanoi, and support for collective and cooperative economic development in the city, among others, to increase resources for implementing activities and enhance the effectiveness of supporting craft village development.
