Strengthening trust and bilateral cooperation
According to VNA, this was Governor-General Sam Mostyn’s first state visit to Vietnam, marking an important milestone in bilateral relations.
At the meeting, General Secretary To Lam warmly welcomed the Governor-General, congratulating Australia on achievements in science, technology, cultural diversity, and climate response. He expressed confidence that Australia would further assert its role and contribute to peace, stability, and development regionally and globally.

Governor-General Mostyn thanked General Secretary To Lam for the reception and conveyed her admiration for Vietnam’s people, culture, and history. She praised the resilience of the Vietnamese people and congratulated the Party and State on recent achievements. She affirmed that Vietnam is one of Australia’s most trusted partners and voiced her desire to deepen cooperation across all fields.
General Secretary To Lam emphasized that Vietnam values its Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with Australia as one of its key, reliable relationships. He stressed that bilateral ties are increasingly substantive and effective, becoming a bright spot in regional cooperation.
Expanding practical cooperation toward sustainability
The two leaders highlighted strong people-to-people ties, noting contributions from the Vietnamese community in Australia and the Australian community in Vietnam.
On education, General Secretary To Lam called for expanding cooperation in human resources and labor development, particularly in high-skilled professions and scientific research. He underlined the importance of implementing existing science-technology programs, fostering talent exchange, and enabling collaboration between young scientists and entrepreneurs from both countries.

He noted that Australia’s strength in scientific research and Vietnam’s focus on innovation and digital transformation create great potential for cooperation, boosting socio-economic development in both nations.
On climate change, both leaders recognized it as a global challenge requiring joint action. General Secretary To Lam appreciated Australia’s support for Vietnam and called for enhanced cooperation toward green and sustainable development.
Concluding the meeting, both reaffirmed their strong political will to advance the Vietnam-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, contributing to regional and global peace, stability, and prosperity.
