On October 9, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam To Lam and the senior Vietnamese delegation arrived at Pyongyang International Airport.

The visit is made at the invitation of the General Secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea and President of the State Affairs Commission Kim Jong Un.

The welcome ceremony was held with great solemnity and cordiality. Honor guards lined both sides of the red carpet, while Korean girls presented flowers to greet General Secretary To Lam. Alternate Politburo Member Kim Song Nam received the Vietnamese Party leader at the foot of the aircraft’s stairs. General Secretary To Lam walked along the red carpet, warmly shaking hands with senior Korean officials and members of the Vietnamese Embassy. Korean children waved flags and flowers in a joyful and friendly atmosphere, symbolising the close bonds between the two nations.

The DPRK was among the very first countries to establish diplomatic relations with Viet Nam in 1950. The traditional friendship between the two peoples was founded and nurtured by President Ho Chi Minh and President Kim Il Sung, and has since been continuously strengthened by generations of leaders from both sides. During Viet Nam’s struggle for national liberation, the DPRK stood shoulder to shoulder with the Vietnamese people; in turn, Viet Nam has consistently supported and accompanied the DPRK through its difficult periods of nation-building and development.

The State visit of General Secretary To Lam takes place on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Viet Nam and the DPRK (1950–2025) and the Viet Nam - DPRK Friendship Year 2025. The visit bears profound historical and political significance, vividly manifesting the great importance attached by the two Parties and States to their traditional friendship. It also reaffirms Viet Nam’s consistent foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, peace, cooperation and development, aimed at consolidating and enhancing its long-standing relations with traditional friends and trusted partners across the world.
