Proactive implementation
With electricity demand set to surge in 2026, the National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT) is aggressively pushing forward the implementation of vital power transmission projects.
Recognizing the strategic importance of power supply security amid double-digit economic growth projections, the EVNNPT has laid out an ambitious 2025 roadmap: start construction on 34 projects and complete 74 transmission projects excluding around 10 additional ones expected to be assigned.
The units have been actively implementing projects.
Thanks to resolute execution, as of August 2025, the EVNNPT had already broken ground on 23 projects and energized 18.
Across all three regions North, Central, and South EVNNPT engineers and workers remain stationed on-site, working at full speed. In the North, the Northern Power Project Management Board (NPMB) is urgently implementing transmission lines aligned with the revised Power Development Plan VIII, including critical 220kV and 500kV lines designed to ensure system reliability and enhance flexibility for electricity imports from Laos and China.
In Hanoi, construction is being expedited at the 500kV West Hanoi Substation (TBA), where the installation of a second transformer is underway. Upon completion, the substation’s capacity will double from 900 MVA to 1,800 MVA, significantly boosting power supply reliability for the capital and neighboring areas.
In the Central and Central Highlands regions, the 120km-long 220kV Pleiku 2 - Krong Buk (circuit 2) transmission line is being fast-tracked by the Central Power Project Management Board (CPMB), despite ongoing land clearance challenges. So far, 49 out of 127 tower foundations have been completed, and 18 towers have been erected. The Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee has directed all departments and local authorities to finalize land handover for foundations by September 30, 2025.
In the South, the Southern Power Project Management Board (SPMB) is simultaneously advancing two key projects: the 220kV Hoa Binh Substation (Ca Mau) with a 9.7km connecting line, and the 220kV double-circuit line connecting to the 220kV Bac Lieu Substation. Both projects aim to ease the load on the existing grid and release capacity from renewable energy sources in the Mekong Delta. Although land compensation remains a hurdle, SPMB is closely coordinating with local authorities to facilitate timely site handover.

Determined to bring the project to the finish line
Alongside efforts from project units, the EVNNPT leadership has maintained a strong field presence personally inspecting sites, addressing bottlenecks, and urging timely progress. Since early September 2025 alone, the EVNNPT has dispatched several delegations to supervise key projects.
For example, earlier this month, EVNNPT General Director Pham Le Phu led a team to inspect the 220kV Chan May Substation project in Thua Thien Hue. With a design capacity of 2x125 MVA and a 5km connecting line, the project is critical to meeting the region’s rising demand. The General Director called for immediate coordination with local authorities to resolve land clearance issues and mobilize maximum resources to begin construction once land is available.
On September 6, Deputy Party Secretary Vu Hong Nguyen and Deputy General Director Hoang Van Tuyen visited the 500/220kV Nho Quan - Phu Ly - Thuong Tin transmission line project. Spanning 80km, the project has faced land clearance delays, with only 208 of 233 tower foundations handed over, largely due to issues in Ninh Binh. The EVNNPT urged NPMB to clear remaining sites within September and prepare for immediate cable installation.

On September 8, Deputy General Director Bui Van Kien conducted field inspections of two projects in Ca Mau and Bac Lieu. Following on-site briefings, he directed SPMB to work closely with local governments on land valuation and promptly report unresolved issues to the EVNNPT for intervention.
Most recently, on September 12, Deputy General Director Nguyen Ngoc Tan visited the 500kV Hoa Binh Substation expansion project. The second transformer (AT2) is scheduled to be energized in October 2025, raising capacity from 450 MVA to 900 MVA.
Amid rising electricity consumption, ensuring timely completion of transmission infrastructure is essential to national energy security. Embracing a “no holidays” mindset, the EVNNPT and its subsidiaries are showing unwavering commitment through on-site presence, prompt decision-making, and tireless coordination to overcome obstacles.
Once completed, these projects will enhance the safety, stability, and reliability of Vietnam’s power grid ensuring continuous electricity supply for households and businesses, while laying a strong foundation for long-term energy security and sustainable socio-economic development.
