,Industrial production grows 10.6%

On the morning of September 9, a delegation from the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT), led by Deputy Minister Truong Thanh Hoai, held a working session with the Lam Dong provincial People’s Committee on industrial and energy development and solutions to promote double-digit economic growth in the province.

The working session was attended by leaders of units under the MoIT, Viet Nam Electricity (EVN), the National Power Transmission Corporation, the Southern Power Corporation and relevant agencies. Representing Lam Dong province were Ho Van Muoi, Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee; Nguyen Hong Hai, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee; Nguyen Ba Ut, Director of the provincial Department of Industry and Trade; and leaders of relevant departments and agencies.

Reporting at the working session, Nguyen Ba Ut, Director of the Lam Dong Department of Industry and Trade, said industrial production in the province maintained relatively strong growth momentum in the first eight months of 2026. Specifically, the industrial production index (IIP) rose 19.14% in August, bringing the cumulative growth in the first eight months to 10.6% year on year.

Of this, mining increased by 19.16%; manufacturing and processing rose by 17.31%; electricity production and distribution grew by 6.78%; while water supply, waste management and wastewater treatment increased by 7.61%.

Notably, manufacturing and processing continued to serve as the main driver of industrial growth. Among the province’s 18 key industrial products, 17 recorded growth of more than 10% in the first eight months of the year. Several products posted high growth rates, including sports footwear, up more than 40%; processed and preserved seafood and seafood products, up 25%; processed vegetables and fruits, up more than 18%; beverages, up more than 17%; and apparel products, up more than 12%.

According to the Department of Industry and Trade, the first phase of the Tran Hong Quan Aluminum Electrolysis Plant, with a capacity of 150,000 tons per year, has begun operations, providing additional momentum for the manufacturing and processing sector.

Despite these results, Lam Dong province said that the development of industry, minerals and energy still faced a number of difficulties and obstacles that need to be addressed to create additional room for growth in the coming period.

At the working session, the province proposed that the MoIT support the resolution of issues related to planning, investment procedures, land, minerals and energy, while creating conditions to accelerate the implementation of industrial and energy projects currently underway in the province.

Lam Dong also proposed paying greater attention to completing power grid and transmission infrastructure, as well as infrastructure systems in industrial parks and industrial clusters, while studying the addition and updating of potential energy projects, particularly renewable energy and offshore wind power projects.

According to the Lam Dong provincial People’s Committee, removing bottlenecks related to planning, land, minerals, energy and infrastructure would help accelerate project implementation, make effective use of the province’s potential and advantages, and thereby contribute to its target of double-digit economic growth.

At the working session, Chairman of the Lam Dong provincial People’s Committee Ho Van Muoi stressed the need to definitively address difficulties and obstacles arising during project implementation, avoiding a situation in which responsibilities are shifted between the central and local levels.

The provincial leader proposed that the MoIT and Lam Dong develop a joint plan clearly identifying tasks, responsibilities and completion deadlines for each group of work.

For tasks already underway, the two sides need to clearly determine the next steps and the responsibilities of each agency. For new projects, they need to clearly identify the starting point, focal agency and specific implementation schedule.

Lam Dong also agreed to establish a joint working group between the MoIT and the province to regularly coordinate, directly address emerging issues and provide recommendations to the leaders of both sides.

The Chairman of the Lam Dong provincial People’s Committee affirmed that the province would direct its departments and agencies to closely coordinate with units under the MoIT, focus on definitively resolving outstanding tasks, accelerate the implementation of key projects, and contribute to socio-economic development and energy security.

MoIT stands ready to work with Lam Dong

At the working session, representatives of the Electricity Authority of Viet Nam, Viet Nam Electricity (EVN), the National Power Transmission Corporation, the Institute of Energy and relevant units exchanged views and proposed solutions to remove bottlenecks in industrial and energy development, contributing to the province’s goal of achieving double-digit economic growth.

After listening to the opinions, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Truong Thanh Hoai, in his concluding remarks, acknowledged and highly appreciated Lam Dong’s determination and consensus in addressing difficulties and obstacles and promoting industrial and energy development.

According to Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Truong Thanh Hoai, Lam Dong holds an important position for the industry and trade sector, with significant potential and advantages in minerals, bauxite, titanium, renewable energy and baseload power.

To effectively tap these advantages, the Deputy Minister asked units under the MoIT to proactively coordinate with Lam Dong, focusing on resolving issues within their authority while studying and advising competent authorities on matters beyond their jurisdiction.

Regarding institutions and planning, the MoIT will continue to complete regulations related to the functions and duties of Departments of Industry and Trade, while accelerating adjustments to the mineral planning and updating the revised Power Development Plan VIII, creating a basis for the province and businesses to implement projects.

For key power projects and industrial and energy complexes, the Deputy Minister agreed on a plan to review and adjust the schedules of projects unlikely to be completed during the 2026 - 2030 period, while updating the plan with additional projects that are feasible for implementation.

Regarding projects affected by overlapping mineral planning, the MoIT assigned relevant specialized units to coordinate with the province to review and clearly determine the affected areas and propose appropriate solutions.

This is considered one of the important tasks to remove obstacles facing invested projects that remain entangled in planning issues, thereby limiting the waste of resources and putting the facilities into operation as soon as possible.

Deputy Minister Truong Thanh Hoai said Lam Dong and neighboring areas have significant potential for offshore wind power and the development of the energy industry.

The MoIT will coordinate with relevant agencies to study orientations for establishing an integrated energy industrial center, linked to logistics infrastructure and equipment manufacturing facilities serving offshore wind power development.

The Deputy Minister asked Lam Dong province to proactively prepare land reserves and update relevant contents in its land-use and provincial planning, creating additional room to attract large-scale investment projects in the coming period.
