The leadership transition marks a new phase in SAIC Motor’s long-term development strategy in Southeast Asia and reflects the company’s ambition to strengthen its presence in the Vietnamese market. Tang succeeds former General Manager Lu, who oversaw MG’s rapid expansion during the brand’s first growth phase in Vietnam from 2020 to 2025.
According to the company, the appointment is intended to support the next stage of development, focusing on market expansion, sales growth, localized production, technological advancement and strategic partnerships.

Tang Donghui assumes the role of General Manager of MG Vietnam
During its first phase of operations in Vietnam, MG recorded significant growth in market presence and brand recognition. Looking ahead, the company expects to achieve new milestones through local manufacturing initiatives, the introduction of advanced technologies and closer cooperation with major industry partners.
Speaking on his appointment, Tang expressed appreciation for his predecessor’s contributions and reaffirmed the company’s long-term commitment to the Vietnamese market.
“I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to my predecessor, Lu, for his visionary leadership and dedication, which have laid a strong foundation for MG’s success,” Tang said.
“Vietnam has always been a core strategic market in Southeast Asia. We firmly reaffirm our long-term commitment to Vietnamese customers. In the coming period, SMV will continue to enrich its product portfolio with high-quality models equipped with advanced technologies, while elevating aftersales service standards across our 3S network to deliver greater value and strengthen customer trust.”
The company emphasized that its overall strategy and long-term objectives remain unchanged under the new leadership. For 2026 and the years ahead, SMV will focus on three strategic priorities.
The first pillar is product development. The company plans to expand and upgrade its model lineup in line with the global transition toward greener mobility. New vehicles featuring internal combustion engine (ICE), hybrid electric vehicle (HEV), plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) and battery electric vehicle (BEV) technologies are expected to be introduced, with SUVs taking a leading role in upcoming launches.
The second priority is strengthening the dealer network and enhancing aftersales services. SMV said it will work closely with dealership partners nationwide to standardize operational processes, improve service capabilities and optimize the supply of genuine spare parts, aiming to provide customers with a more consistent ownership experience.
The third pillar focuses on deepening the company’s local commitment. As part of this effort, SMV is studying the feasibility of local production for several of its most popular models in Vietnam. The initiative is intended not only to improve operational efficiency but also to better understand the needs and preferences of Vietnamese consumers.
By gaining deeper insights into local driving habits and customer expectations, the company believes it can accelerate product development and deliver solutions that are more relevant to the domestic market.
SMV said these initiatives will help the company strengthen relationships with customers, improve responsiveness to market demands and further establish MG as a customer-centric automotive brand in Vietnam.
The company added that its long-term vision is to build lasting partnerships with Vietnamese consumers while supporting the sustainable growth of the country’s automotive industry.
