14th National Party Congress: Presidium comprises 16 Politburo members

At its January 19 preparatory session, the 14th National Party Congress elected a 16-member Presidium from the Politburo.

At the preparatory session on January 19, the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam elected a Presidium consisting of 16 Politburo members, a Secretariat of five members, and a Credentials Committee comprising 13 members.

On the morning of January 19, 2026, the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam convened its preparatory session at the National Convention Center in Hanoi.

Prior to the opening of the session, delegates paid tribute to President Ho Chi Minh at his Mausoleum. Subsequently, members of the Politburo, the Secretariat, and heads of delegations from Party organizations directly under the Central Committee laid wreaths and offered incense at the Monument to the National Heroes and Martyrs.

The Congress observed a minute of silence in memory of the late General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and members of the 13th Central Committee who passed away during the tenure of the 13th National Congress.

Tran Thanh Man, Politburo member and Chairman of the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, presided over the preparatory session on behalf of the Party and State’s top leadership.

The Congress voted with overwhelming consensus to approve the agenda of the preparatory session, the Rules of Procedure of the Congress, the overall working program of the Congress, and the election regulations for the 14th National Party Congress.

The Congress elected a Presidium comprising 16 Politburo members. It also elected a five-member Secretariat and a 13-member Credentials Committee.

The Congress further voted with strong unanimity to approve the report on delegate credentials presented by the Credentials Committee. Accordingly, all 1,586 delegates convened for the Congress were confirmed to be fully qualified to attend.

In the afternoon, delegates studied relevant documents at their respective accommodations.
