Phu Quoc, a new world’s leading destination

(VEN) - As an ideal choice for travel and long-term relaxation, and with a rich natural environment and pleasant architecture, Phu Quoc Island in the Mekong Delta province of Kien Giang has become a new world's top destination. US magazine Travel+Leisure has listed Phu Quoc Island among the 25 best destinations to visit in 2023.

The world's top natural island

In 2021, Phu Quoc Island was listed among the world’s 100 greatest places to explore on earth in 2021 as voted by US-based Time Magazine (Time).

In 2022, Phu Quoc was named the world's most attractive natural island at the World Travel Awards ceremony, surpassing six world-famous islands including Tanzania’s Zanzibar and Norway’s Lofoten.

With an overall score of 89.77 out of 100, Phu Quoc was voted as the sixth out of 10 most favorite resort islands in Asia in the Readers’ Choice Award 2022 of the US-based tourism magazine Condé Nast Traveler (CNTraveler).

Phu Quoc also won many titles, such as the 25th most beautiful islands in the world in 2022 by Travel + Leisure and among the 15th best islands for retirement, voted by International Living.

Phu Quoc is a “rising star”. It consists of 28 islands of different sizes and is home to 150km of coastline and 14 beautiful beaches, including the world’s top ones. The island’s beauty and attractiveness is promoted with a mild, warm climate, ideal for travel and relaxation at any time of the year.

Attractive experiences in Hon Thom

Coming to Phu Quoc, visitors should not miss the chance to explore attractive destinations with unique natural beauty, such as Rach Vem and Dai beaches, Phu Quoc National Park, Ham Ninh fishing village, and many small islands of Hon Thom, Hon Dam, Hon Mong Tay and Hon May Rut.

In particular, the southern part of the island has a distinct beauty with creamy white sands, deep blue sea waters, while Hon Thom (Thom Island) accommodates the largest coral conservation area in Phu Quoc (9,720 hectares). There are many world’s leading beautiful beaches, including Bai Kem (Kem Beach) – listed in the top 50 beaches on the planet by Travel Inc Flight Network (Canada), and Bai Sao (Sao Beach) – voted by readers of Condé Nast Traveler (CN Traveler) as one of the 10 most pristine and quiet beaches in the world, along with famous beaches in Fiji, Maldives, and Australia.

Unique tourism works

This island is emerging as a destination of unique tourism works that are rarely found anywhere in the world.

Those iconic works of Phu Quoc must include the Hon Thom cable car - the world's longest three-wire cable car system that takes visitors from the center of An Thoi town to Hon Thom island.

Sunset Town has features of a Mediterranean style town but is unique in the world. The differences from the original version are smaller doorways to lower the sunlight, a slightly raised slope of roofs for efficient drainage of rainwater, and more green gardens.

This destination deserves to be the new symbol of Phu Quoc in the shape of a “giant art museum”. There are many artistic works here such as the Sun Signature Gallery - a center to hold events and festivals that looks like a Mid Century Modern art museum; the Clock Tower - inspired by the bell tower of St. Mark's Campanile (Italy) with a height of 75 meters; the Sun God fountain created by sculpting geniuses from the Italian Frill family; or the Central Village located at the foot of the Clock Tower with the six-star hotel La Festa Phu Quoc, Curio by Hilton.

Sunset Town

The focal point of Sunset Town is Kiss Bridge - a beautiful bridge with two soft 400m branches stretch out to meet each other in the middle of the sky, with only 30cm separating them - a distance just enough for two people to touch each other and exchange kisses, especially at sunset around Christmas and New Year. In addition to the unique architecture, this beautiful bridge also carries the message of love and the connection between people, and people with the universe.

The Australia's Sydney Morning Herald gave special praise to the Sunset Town, saying that it seems to bring tourists back to Italy.

Meanwhile, Chairman, Founder of the World Travel Awards (WTA) Graham Cooke commented: “There are many outstanding buildings in the world, many of those are located in Saudi Arabia and Abu Dhabi, even in Europe, and I think the Sunset Town deserves to be in the elite Premier League of all the new iconic constructions and has potential opportunity to become a new leading destination in the world”.

Deluxe entertainment and relaxation experiences

“Phu Quoc is an amazing emerging destination in Asia. We believe it will become a global tourism center,” said Graham Cooke. Factors making Phu Quoc attractive to visitors include not only beautiful natural landscapes and high-grade entertainment facilities and services but also luxurious relaxation experiences.

Phu Quoc’s tourism infrastructure has been improving with synchronous tourism ecosystems, from entertainment and relaxation to high-grade properties in the south of the island.

Kiss The Stars show

Luxurious entertainment and relaxation facilities making Phu Quoc known as a global tourist destination include Sun World Hon Thom Nature Park where visitors can enjoy popular games in Asia; Kiss The Stars, a one-of-a-kind oceanside stage complex with special multimedia shows; and luxurious hotels such as JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay, Premier Residences Phu Quoc Emerald Bay, New World Phu Quoc Resort, and Premier Village Phu Quoc Resort.

In 2019, Sun Group’s JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay hosted the seven-day wedding of Indian billionaire Kaabia Grewal and groom Rushang Shah. At the World Travel Awards 2022, JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay was nominated as World's Leading Luxury Wedding Resort for the fourth consecutive year.

In Phu Quoc, Sun Group has cooperated with hotel management giants such as Marriott International, Accor Hotels, and Rosewood Hotel Group to build luxurious resorts. For many consecutive years, New World Phu Quoc Resort has been awarded as Asia’s Leading Family Beach Resort; and Premier Residences Phu Quoc Emerald Bay as Asia’s Leading Hotel Residences.

Charming nature, unique tourism infrastructure and professional services are basic features of a world-famous tourist destination. Phu Quoc is gradually perfecting these three features to become a new destination for tourists worldwide to discover at least once in their lives.

From 2016-2019, the annual number of tourists to Phu Quoc increased rapidly and reached more than five million in 2019.

In 2020, despite the COVID-19 pandemic, Phu Quoc received 3.5 million visitors, surpassing Asia’s top tourist destinations such as Phuket (Thailand) and Maldives.

In 2022, Phu Quoc welcomed nearly 5.1 million visitors, an increase of 134 percent compared with 2021.
