Long Thanh Airport component project 4 urged to be on schedule

(VEN) - On the afternoon of December 2, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha chaired a meeting of the Working Group on the Long Thanh International Airport project, Phase 1 regarding the implementation of component project 4 connecting traffic to Long Thanh Airport.

According to Deputy Minister of Transport Le Anh Tuan, the ministry has directed the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) to conduct bidding and evaluate urgent and necessary projects that need to be implemented immediately to ensure service when Long Thanh International Airport is put into operation in Phase 1. They include aircraft sanitary treatment areas, the maintenance area for ground service vehicles, airline catering areas, aircraft maintenance and repair areas...

To put Long Thanh International Airport into operation, according to Vu The Phiet - General Director of the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV), the items and works of component projects must be completed in sync with compiling documents on standard operating procedures, and with connecting traffic routes.

Accordingly, Phiet proposed that the Ministry of Transport urgently complete the necessary procedures to assign enterprises, including ACV, to investing and immediately implementing items and works that the Ministry cannot finish in time, such as cargo terminals, express cargo terminals, warehouses, etc., and the remaining items as well.

Concluding the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha said that the delay in implementing component project 4, while other component projects are underway as scheduled and exceeding progress, will greatly affect the operation plan of Long Thanh Airport, and risk causing great waste.

Therefore, the Deputy PM requested the Ministry of Transport to be responsible for the progress of component project 4, and to make efforts and drastically implement solutions to complete the works and items of the component 4 in sync with other component projects to put Long Thanh International Airport into operation on schedule.

In addition, the Ministry of Transport must review all bidding documents for works and items in component project 4; clearly identify the items that the ministry will implement and the projects assigned to capable enterprises, along with a specific progress commitment, and submit to the Prime Minister for the adjustment of Decision No.1777/QD-TTg on approving the construction project of Long Thanh International Airport, Phase 1.

According to the Ministry of Transport, Phase 1 of the Long Thanh International Airport project commenced in early 2021 and has completed the construction of three out of four component projects, with only component project 4 being implemented behind schedule.

The progress of component project 4 including 17 ground service items is slower than planned. The Ministry of Transport has approved eight prioritized items, of which the CAAV is completing procedures to choose investors for seven items.
