NZSS program was first introduced in 2019 by Education New Zealand (ENZ) as a testament to New Zealand’s commitment to supporting Viet Nam nurture 21st-century global citizens. The scholarship scheme is the first of its kind, featuring a unique application format to allow students to fully showcase their potentials. Since then, NZSS has garnered widespread acclaim from Vietnamese parents, students, and educational institutions.

Tredene Dobson, New Zealand Ambassador to Viet Nam, said: “We have been delighted with the results of the NZSS program for Viet Nam since it was established. We consistently receive many high-quality applications from Vietnamese school students, and those selected have gone on to achieve some incredible results in New Zealand - so we’ve been very proud to play a role in their academic success. Not only do we look forward to the new scholarship students flourishing in New Zealand – we also look forward to the important role they will play in our local communities and classrooms as they learn alongside young New Zealand students and work together towards a greater understanding of global citizenship.”

Ben Burrowes, Regional Director, Asia at Education New Zealand, said: “New Zealand is a safe and peaceful country which shares many similarities with Viet Nam, including a deep commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Our common areas of focus include sustainability, climate action, diversity, and inclusion. We hope to witness more New Zealand and Vietnamese sharing their learning journeys in 2024.”

Aspiring candidates for the NZSS scholarships have multiple chances to pursue their educational goals in New Zealand. Students who do not receive the NZSS scholarships will be considered for the many other scholarships offered by New Zealand schools. This dual-opportunity scheme ensures that students can maximise their chance to secure scholarships when applying for the NZSS program.

Secondary school students aspiring to secure the scholarship must meet the required eligibility criteria. These include achieving a GPA of 8 or higher and an IELTS score of 5.0 or its equivalent.
