Ho Chi Minh city supermarkets have replenished goods three times more than usual |
This year, enterprises spend about VND22 trillion to prepare goods for the two months of the Lunar New Year, of which more than VND8.5 trillion is used to for market stabilization (accounting for 25 to 43 percent). On average, each month, they are expected to supply 7,000 tonnes of rice, 2,000 tonnes of sugar, 1,000 tonnes of processed foods, 2,000 tonnes of cooking oil, 11,000 tonnes of vegetables and fruits, 6,000 tonnes of cattle meat, 8,000 tonnes of poultry meat, 200 tonnes of sea food, and more.
Sharing about the progress of goods preparation, Saigon Co.op Deputy General Director Le Truong Son said Saigon Co.op has planned to prepare goods for the Tet season since June 2023. Accordingly, the total value of Saigon Co.op's essential goods for Tet is up to VND10 trillion, an increase of 20 to 50 percent depending on each product category compared to normal months. “The majority of our budget prioritizes stocks of market stabilization products, such as rice, sugar, cooking oil, pork, poultry, eggs, processed foods, vegetables, fruits, and seafood. With abundant goods supplies, we will fully meet people's needs during Tet season,” Le Truong Son said.
In addition to preparing large quantities of goods at stable prices, according to the city’s Department of Industry and Trade, 2023 was the peak year for the city to promote regional connectivity. Accordingly, the city signed cooperative agreements on socio-economic development with 38 provinces and cities in five economic regions across the country. This is a two-way connection activity, not only supporting localities to sell products, but also adding goods supplies to stabilize the market, meeting the diverse needs of city’s consumers; bringing regional specialties to consumers, especially during Tet and other holidays.
Thanks to regional connection activities and direct connections with distribution businesses, thousands of OCOP specialties and products have been offered to Ho Chi Minh City consumers. Notably, many distribution systems also have separate areas to display and sell OCOP products, such as the Co.opmart supermarket with 70 products; GO!, BigC, Top Market systems 145 products; Satra system 34 products; MM Mega Market 106 products, and more. Many OCOP products have been welcomed by consumers, including Can Gio bird's nest products, Coconut wax fiber - VICOSAP, Ha My salted roasted cashew nuts, Phu Quoc Khai Hoan fish sauce, Quy Hoa yellow flower tea products, Hoai Trung premium Dinh Tea, Tra Vinh Farm coconut nectar, and more.
