Nguyen Van Dat, Technical Department, Vietnam National Chemical Group, said VINACHEM has realized a number of tasks and solutions to minimize greenhouse gas emissions, contributing to achieving the goal of net zero emissions by 2050.

The energy efficiency solutions realized by VINACHEM’s member units helped the group save billions of Vietnam dongs in 2022.

Two member units of VINACHEM – Ninh Binh Nitrogenous Fertilizer Company Limited and Ha Bac Nitrogenous Fertilizer and Chemicals Joint Stock Company – have procured and operated equipment capable of recovering 30,000-40,000 tonnes of CO2 per year, while the group has gotten all of its member units to plant trees in order to absorb and store carbon.

The Ninh Binh Nitrogenous Fertilizer Company Limited and another VINACHEM member unit – Da Nang Rubber Joint Stock Company – have invested in rooftop electrical systems. Meanwhile, some fertilizer producers in the southern country have shifted to using green materials, such as husks and sawdust, in steam production, Dat said.

He said member businesses of VINACHEM have had access to green technology and green credit, and they have also encountered major difficulties, as energy transition requires them to upgrade technology and or procure new technology. This requires both capital and human resources, he added.

To overcome the above-mentioned difficulties, VINACHEM has prioritized advanced, environmentally friendly technology transfer and made energy transition part of the group’s development plans and strategies. The group has found solutions to minimize greenhouse gas emissions.

The VINACHEM representative said he hopes that relevant authorities will soon issue policies to create favorable conditions for businesses to access preferential credit, as well as climate-smart investment promotion policies.
