Hai Phong Thermal Power JSC ensures cleaner production

Hai Phong Thermal Power Joint Stock Company in Tam Hung Commune, Thuy Nguyen District has two plants. The first one has an area of 332,084 sq.m and the second covers an area of 238,888 sq.m. The slag disposal site has an area of 559,600 sq.m; while the area of circulating water discharge channel is 191,749 sq.m. Hai Phong Thermal Power Plant uses equipment of advanced technology that meet technical requirements to minimize negative impacts on the environment.

The company has built environmental protection works in accordance with commitments and designs approved by competent authorities. For example, it has installed an automatic emissions monitoring system and cameras at chimneys. All related data and images are regularly and continuously transmitted to the city’s Department of Natural Resources and Environment.

With the vision of becoming a leading reputable power generation company, and pioneering in environmental protection, the company is investing in a project to upgrade emissions treatment system, aimed at meeting requirements for SO₂ and NO_x emissions according to National Technical Regulation QCVN 22:2009/BTNMT on emission of thermal power industry and considering adjustments to the general planning of Hai Phong City to 2025, with vision to 2050. The project has a total estimated initial investment of about VND1.570 trillion.

Accordingly, hazardous waste and household waste are classified right at the source, then collected and transferred to relevant units for treatment.

Every year, the company organizes training and drills in response to incidents, such as oil spills, chemical incidents, etc., to raise awareness in responding to incidents as well as protecting the environment.

In particular, the company has planted about 12 hectares of landscape trees and planting casuarina trees as dust-proof fences in the coal port area, coal storage and slag disposal sites, which help both protect the environment and beautify the landscape of production areas.

On October 6, a supervisory delegation of the People’s Council of Hai Phong City worked with Hai Phong Thermal Power JSC on implementing legal regulations on environmental protection.

Through inspections at the plants, the delegation assessed that Hai Phong Thermal Power JSC had fully implemented legal procedures on environmental protection; managed and treated waste according to regulations; made periodic and irregular reports as regulations; and complied with the law in the field of environmental protection.

The supervision team asked Hai Phong Thermal Power JSC to update legal documents in the field of environment regularly for self-inspection plans in the company; accelerate progress of the emission treatment system project to meet more stringent emissions requirements; strengthen dissemination of policies and laws on environmental protection to staff and workers.
