Hanoi boosts consumption of OCOP products

(VEN) - In recent years, Hanoi has continuously organized trade promotion programs to develop the city’s One Commune One Product (OCOP) program and improve the value of the products, bring them to consumers and target exports.

Promoting quintessence of the capital city

According to a report by the Hanoi Office of New Rural Development Program Coordination, there are currently 806 traditional craft villages and craft villages. As of 2022, 321 villages had been recognized, including 48 recognized as traditional craft villages and 273 recognized as craft villages.

In addition, the city has 1,136 agricultural cooperatives in operation; 1,695 farms; 149 linkage chains and more than 164 high-tech models, which is a favorable condition to implement the One Commune One Product (OCOP) program, contributing to promoting sustainable economic development of the rural areas.

Particularly, so far, the city has certified 2,167 out of 9,852 OCOP products nationwide (accounting for 22 percent), including six five-star products, 12 potential five-star products, 1,369 four-star products, and 780 three-star products.

According to Director of Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Xuan Dai, the goal of the OCOP Program is to promote the potentials, advantages, and also sustainable economic development of rural areas, contributing to building newly-style rural areas in a sustainable way.

Vice Chairman of Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen Manh Quyen said that this is the solution and task in implementing the National Target Program on building newly-style rural areas. The program has also awakened the potential of agricultural production and handicrafts in the capital, changed thinking in agricultural production, making a drastic change in economic development of rural areas.

Various ways to find new markets

Over the past time, Hanoi city has continuously organized a number of trade fairs and seminars to diversify forms of trade connection and help traditional craft villages introduce their OCOP products to consumers. The products have gradually been recognized and highly appreciated by consumers in terms of quality, packaging designs, food safety and hygiene, and more.

Acting Director of the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade Tran Thi Phuong Lan said that every year, the department regularly coordinates with districts and town to open stalls to introduce and sell OCOP products not only throughout the city but also expanding to other localities across the country. Many OCOP products have been connected to nearly 50 points of sale of Hanoi city; and also promoted on 600 e-commerce websites to boost exports.

According to Hanoi’s OCOP target program for the 2021-2025 period, Hanoi has recently organized several events on digital platforms such as the “OCOP Hanoi Specialty Livestream Festival,” the online forum on fostering farm produce consumption through connecting supply and demand of OCOP products and safe agricultural products and food, and the pilot model Hanoi Night Market every Friday night on the Facebook platform.

In particular, in August 2022, the Hanoi Office of New Rural Development Program Coordination signed a strategic cooperation agreement with TikTok to support entities to bring OCOP products to a larger spectrum of consumers through social networking platforms, such as e-commerce solutions - TikTok Shop and TikTok LIVE, creating a sustainable consumption channel for OCOP subjects.

Trade promotion is one of the key steps to boost the consumption of the capital’s OCOP products, making significant contribution to expanding the distribution network of Vietnamese goods to consumers.
