Greece introduces agricultural products to Vietnam market

The National Union of Agricultural Cooperatives of Greece (ETHEAS) recently had a business trip to Vietnam to attend the Vietfood & Beverage exhibition 2023 in Ho Chi Minh City and to promote high-quality Greek agricultural products, with the labels PDO (Protected Designation of Origin) & PGI (Protected Geographical Indication).

PDO & PGI labels are certified throughout European Union. The campaign to promote Greek agricultural products is sponsored by the European Union.

ETHEAS consists of more than 262 cooperatives with more than 70,000 farmers, accounting for 89% of the revenue of all Greek cooperatives in the areas of cheese, olives, olive oil, wine and fresh fruit.

According to ETHEAS, in Greece, fruit and food are produced and strictly adhere to food safety regulations. In addition, the sustainability of the land is preserved, the irrigation water is used rationally, the health, hygiene and safety are guaranteed for those working in the agricultural facilities. Biodiversity is managed and enhanced through sound and prudent management of resources. Greek fruits and foods possess all the necessary certificates to ensure safety, quality and high nutritional value.

Agriculture and food production is a traditional Greek profession. Cheese, olives, olive oil and cotton are the main exports of Greece, accounting for 28.7% of total exports. Greek olive oil is known worldwide for its purity, exceptional taste and high nutritional value. Greece produces more than 430,000 tonnes of olive oil annually and more than 75% of it is extra virgin olive oil, considered the best. Greece is also the third largest producer of olive oil in the world, with a 16% share of the international olive oil market. Besides, the country has a centuries-old cheese-making tradition. Today, Greece produces many different types of cheese of good quality, and nearly every region of Greece produces its own signature cheese. Greece is one of the three European countries with the highest per capita cheese consumption and is also in the top 15 for cheese production within the EU countries.
