Remarkably, the province’s lychee is consumed favorably in both domestic and export markets, in which the province’s lychee export is estimated at nearly 111,200 tonnes, and domestic consumption at nearly 90,500 tonnes.
Particularly, nearly 20 tonnes of Bac Giang fresh lychees were exported to the US market by sea, then distributed and sold at Safeway and Albertsons supermarkets in the Western states at a fairly competitive price of only US$3.99/pint (VND200,000/kg). It is a great success because most of Vietnamese fruits exported to this market can only be sold at small markets and supermarkets serving Asian consumers.

Meanwhile, in Thailand, this is the first time that Bac Giang lychee has been officially exported by a Vietnamese enterprise and put into a large Thai supermarket system, laying the foundation for boosting consumption of the fruit in the following years.
Factors that make success
The success of this year’s lychee crop in Bac Giang was attributed to diversified forms of consumption. Accordingly, the province used creative, flexible and modern measures for lychee consumption, catching up with current consumption trends.
For example, Bac Giang organized a tourism promotion campaign associated with local agricultural product consumption with the theme “multi-color Bac Giang” attracting more than 70 content creators on the TikTok platform nationwide. The “OCOP fair” on Tiktokshop attracted more than 4.5 million views. In four hours livestreaming, this activity received 5,100 orders with an output of 23 tonnes of lychee, earning a revenue of VND1.2 billion.
The success of the 2023 lychee crop was also attributed to the direction of the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT), as well as the coordination of trade offices and branches of those offices abroad.

Specifically, the MoIT has made constant attempts to fulfill trade promotion tasks to boost the export of Vietnamese agricultural products, especially fresh lychees to large and demanding markets such as the US, Japan, the EU, and more.
Units under the MoIT have closely coordinated with ministries, sectors and partners to synchronously carry out tasks to facilitate operations of import and export businesses.
In June 2023, Vietnamese fresh lychees were sold at many supermarkets and the largest Asian market in Houston, Texas of the US.
In the long term, the MoIT will continue to coordinate with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and relevant ministries, sectors and localities to devise suitable policies and adopt mechanisms to encourage the formation and replication of the agricultural value chain model associated with market demand.
