Capital boosts craft village development

(VEN) - The capital of Hanoi has become one of the country’s biggest localities in terms of the number of craft villages. According to the Hanoi Rural Development Sub-Department’s statistics, the city is home to 806 craft villages, 318 of which have been recognized by the Hanoi People's Committee.

Earning a total revenue of VND20 trillion per year, craft villages in Hanoi have been contributing significantly to the capital’s economic development. They have provided a major number of jobs for rural people.

Through industry promotion projects/programs, Hanoi’s industry and trade sector has been supporting the development of craft villages. The sector offered 60 industrial sewing and mechanics training courses for nearly 2,400 workers, held 12 forums and seminars on handicraft input material supply-demand connection between Hanoi and northern provinces/cities (attracting 2,270 participants), helped 16 rural industrial establishments procure and apply advanced machinery with a total cost of VND3.975 billion, and honored and granted the outstanding rural industrial product status to 180 products.

Tran Thi Phuong Lan, Acting Director of Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade, said Hanoi has efficiently implemented the national industrial promotion program to develop rural craft villages, contributing to the capital’s economic development.

The department will continue effectively implementing national and local industry promotion programs to develop craft village and handicraft industries on a sustainable basis.
