(VEN) - The northern mountain town of Tam Dao has been chosen as the World's Leading Town Destination by the 2022 World Travel Awards. The awards ceremony was held on November 11, 2022 in the Sultanate of Oman.

Located some 85 kilometers north of the capital Hanoi in the Red River Delta province of Vinh Phuc, Tam Dao Town was built by the French in 1906 as a summer resort with villas, a stadium, a swimming pool and a church. In addition to the beauty of French architectural works, Tam Dao attracts tourists to the wild beauty of its mountains and forests.

The Tam Dao national tourism site is located in the Tam Dao Mountain range. It includes three mountains: Thach Ban (1,388m), Thien Nhi (1,375m), and Phu Nghia (1,400m), rising above the sea of clouds like three islands. That is the source of the Vietnamese name “Tam Dao,” meaning “three islands.”

Tourists can experience four seasons in one day with the cool climate of spring in the morning, warm summer at noon, romantic chill of fall in the afternoon and cold winter at night. The sightseeing spot provides a variety of lodging services, including reasonably priced motels and hotels.

The Tam Dao TV Tower is located on the top of Thien Nhi Mountain, 1,375 meters above sea level. Those able to climb almost 1,400 stone steps to reach it are rewarded with stunning views.

Other sites in the area include the Tam Dao ancient stone church built in 1906 and rebuilt in 1937 from stone in typical Gothic style.

The Bac (silver) waterfall is situated in the mountain forest, while the Ba Chua Thuong Ngan Temple is a spiritual Buddhist destination for visitors, who must climb “only” 200 stone steps to reach it.

Tam Dao attracts a large number of domestic and foreign visitors, many of them European tourists.
