The horn, a special musical instrument of the Central Highlands

(VEN) - The tu va (horn) is a very typical instrument used by the people of the Central Highlands. Despite its simplicity, tu va emits a penetrating, echoing sound.

Central Highlands residents make tu va from water buffalo horns measuring 30-50cm. They punch a long rectangular hole in the middle of the horn through which they blow. The tu va, also known as tuwa, has been used as a signal horn since antiquity. These days, whenever a festival takes place, each village sends a representative playing the tu va, usually a prestigious elderly resident of the village. Tu va is a feature of the special Central Highlands culture, which must be preserved and promoted.
